Boutique Wine Shop, Curated by Feel

A little sun, a little moonlight, and a glass poured somewhere in between — chosen the way you'd choose it for a friend.

The Practice

Every bottle, a house call

We source the way a good doctor listens — closely, and from the source. Every grower we work with treats the land as part of the patient.

Organic

Fruit grown the way it was two hundred years ago — sun, soil, and patience doing the work, no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers allowed — tasted the way it should be today.

It's the foundation nearly every grower on our shelves starts from — even when the "Organic" seal isn't on the bottle, since U.S. importers pay extra to keep it there, a cost tariffs have made harder to justify.

Biodynamic

Everything organic does, plus more: the vineyard is treated as one living organism, not rows to be managed. Growers make their own compost, plant cover crops to build the soil, and time their work to lunar and seasonal cycles — the whole farm working together instead of relying on anything trucked in.

The practice traces back to Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian philosopher considered the father of biodynamics, who first laid it out in a series of farming lectures in 1924.

Sustainable

A looser label than it sounds — it covers growers making real, measurable change, and plenty of quietly organic producers who skip certification for the cost, or keep one synthetic treatment in reserve for the disease pressure their climate won't let them farm around.

Synthetic chemicals are still allowed here, unlike organic — but growers must show measurable progress on water use, energy, biodiversity, and soil health. Certifications like HVE, LIVE, or SIP fall in this tier.

Natural

Minimal intervention in the cellar, not just the vineyard — native yeasts, little to no added sulfites, nothing fined or filtered away. The wine, mostly left alone.

No official certification exists for this one — but nearly every natural winemaker we carry is already farming organically or biodynamically underneath it.

The Practitioner

Nearly twenty years behind the counter

A good prescription only works if the person writing it has actually tasted what's on the shelf.

Jerome Leroy

Co-Owner & Buyer

Jerome has spent nearly two decades in New York wine and hospitality — co-founding The Chefs Agency, and, for the past eleven years, working as a buyer, including stints at AOC East and BTL Wines & Spirits.

He also co-created a wine tour built to get closer to the people actually making the bottles. It's less a résumé than a genuine love of the industry and the winemakers behind it — the kind of curiosity that doesn't really turn off, and the reason our shelves feel personal rather than picked off a list.

Bruce Streuli

Co-Owner

Bruce is Jerome's longtime friend and co-owner of French Therapy Wines & Spirits, the two of them turning years of friendship into a shared venture in the East Village. While Jerome leads the wine curation, Bruce shapes the business, brand, and overall experience of French Therapy.

It's the kind of shop that only works when the people building it actually like each other — and together, they're chasing one simple idea: finding a great bottle should feel less intimidating, more intuitive, and a lot more fun.

French Therapy is taking over the space that housed St. Marks Wine and Liquor, a fixture of the East Village since long before either of us got here. We're keeping what worked — the corner, the neighbors, the trust — and rebuilding the shelves around organic, biodynamic, natural, and sustainably farmed wine from around the world — with a particular love for the Loire Valley and Burgundy — sorted the way we actually think about drinking: by mood, not by geography.

« Le meilleur des vins n'est pas nécessairement le plus cher, mais celui que l'on partage. »

The best of wines isn't necessarily the priciest — it's the one you share.

— Georges Brassens

The Formulary

Sorted by how it feels, not where it's from

We sort by drinking experience rather than grape or region — mood before geography, feeling before facts. Here's a taste of how we think about it. One note: "fruit-forward" isn't the same as "sweet" — everything below is dry unless we say otherwise.

White Wines
Delicate · Neutral · Saline · Low-Alcohol

Feather-Light & Dry

Muscadet · Vinho Verde · Txakolina

Sea spray and green almond, barely-there body, a faint prickle on the tongue. The lightest whites we carry — built for oysters, not for thinking too hard.

Fresh · Light · Citrusy · Clean

Crisp & Clean

Sauvignon Blanc (Sancerre) · Chardonnay (Chablis)

Green apple, lemon zest, a flash of stone. Crisp, bright, and mineral whites that arrive cold and stay sharp.

Floral · Ripe · Silky · Full-Bodied

Floral & Round

Viognier · ripe Chenin Blanc

Honeysuckle, ripe orchard fruit, a plush and generous finish — dry the whole way through. Aromatic whites for afternoons that don't need to go anywhere.

Red Wines
Fresh · Crunchy · Fruity · Easy-Drinking

Light & Juicy

Gamay · Pineau d'Aunis

Red cherry, cranberry, barely-there tannin — and bone dry, despite all that fruit. Light, bright reds built for whoever needs to exhale tonight.

Dark-Fruited · Tannic · Concentrated · Age-Worthy

Deep & Age-Worthy

Cabernet Sauvignon · Nebbiolo

Blackcurrant, firm tannin, built to hold. Deep, classic reds for the cellar — or tonight, if you're patient enough to decant.

Sparkling
Bright · Bubbly · Crisp · Celebratory

Bright & Bubbly

Chardonnay · Glera · Chenin Blanc

Brioche and green apple, a rush of fine bubbles. Chilled, dry, and made for the moment something's worth celebrating.

More styles, more moods, waiting for you in the shop.

A Standing Invitation

Pour of the week

Every week, a different bottle earns its own spot in the shop as our Coup de Cœur (Wine Crush) — a dedicated stand near the register, kept fresh with a Coravin so it's pourable by the glass anytime we're open. No purchase required — just ask whoever's behind the counter.

This Week's Pour

Ask us what's open

Our Coup de Cœur changes every week, so we're keeping this spot a surprise until we're actually pouring. Come find out in person.

"Take one glass, slowly, in good company. Repeat as needed."

A word of thanks. This corner has been in good hands for years thanks to Mark Nani, who built St. Marks Wine and Liquor into a neighborhood institution. We're honored to carry it forward — same address, same warm welcome, and we hope to see many familiar faces from his years behind the counter.
